Description

The wax figure depicts Bill Tilden, an American tennis player who helped transform tennis into a popular spectator sport. He has brown hair in the process of balding, and wears a white long sleeve and pants tennis uniform with subtle red and blue stripes, and white shoes. He holds a racquet and stands on a maroon base. This piece is signed by Luis Hidalgo.

Luis Hidalgo (1901-1986) was a wax and waxen fabrics modeler. It's noted that he comes from a line of ancestors who devoted themselves to wax modeling. Hidalgo was most known for wax figurines portraying famous men, such as fighters to generals and poets to politicians. He also had a talent for incorporating the caricature art style in his wax figures.
