Ser-Mel artist biography

Workshop

Ser-Mel was a workshop in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico founded by Sergio Bustamante and Melquiades Preciado in 1963. Ser-Mel's original intentions were to create artistic objects, using tin, wooden objects, furniture and paper-mache. Their workshop quickly grew in popularity during the 60s mostly due to their works being purchased by North American and European tourists. The pair produced mostly hand-painted paper-mache folk art. The two worked as partners until Bustamante's departure in the late 1970s. The workshop continued to operate under Preciado's brothers, and their children until 2013.
