Juventino Diaz Celis (1977-2018) was a recognized Mexican folk art master craftsman from Xalitla, Guerrero. Him and his father, Grand Master Pedro Antonio Diaz, were known for their art on amate paper. However, Juventino took amate art a step further by using the traditional designs into ornamental objects, such as jewelry boxes, frames and pottery. Juventino was once commissioned by La Asociación de Bancos de México in 2018 to create 800 hand-painted boxes to be distributed as gifts for attendees at the 81st Banking Convention. He was only 41 years old when he passed away on August 9th, 2018.
