Juan Sánchez is a muralist, sculptor and ceramist from Cotacachi, Imbabura, Ecuador. He learned pottery around the ages of 3-5 from his dad who also worked with clay. He was talented from a young age, to a point where he would get scolded from his teachers when he turned in drawing assignments, thinking his mother drew them for him. After finishing secondary schooling, he continued to develop his art talent thanks to his connections with great artists. He took his first professional steps when he arrived in Guayaquil in 1992, where he created "Old Guayaquil", a mural on the columns of the vehicular bridge in front of the Mall del Sol Shopping Center. After completing 7 murals around Guayaquil, Sánchez came up with the idea of creating monuments representing Ecuadorian cities. The first sculpture he created was "The Imposing Iguana", which is in honor of the animals in Guayaquil. His other sculptures include "The Colorful Parrot", "The Mischievous Machín Monkey", and "The Orchid", which are all located in Guayaquil. He also has monuments in Milagro, depicting a hummingbird and flower, a restructured pineapple and a guitar. He resides in Jipijapa, Manabí and continues to make handicrafts, which are sold at the Guayaquil Handicraft Market.
