Hugo Brehme (1882-1954) was a German-born black and white photographer based in Mexico. He started a photographic studio in Mexico City called "Fotografía Artística Hugo Brehme" around 1912 and was successful for 40 years. His subjects in photos were mainly of traditional rural Mexico, scenic landscapes, railways, modern monuments and archeological sites. His photos were often placed in tourist guides and magazines, and a large number of postcards of Hugo's photos were produced. He was also an early mentor for Mexican photographer Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Many of Hugo's photos are found at Texas State University in San Marcos, Southern Methodist University and the Fototeca Nacional, which is the Mexican government repository for photographs.
