Gorky Gonzalez (1939-2017) was born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexican. He was the son of sculptor, Rodolfo Gonzalez and is how he studied sculpture and casting of artistic objects in bronze and lost wax. He was mainly interested in restoring the traditional majolica, which is a tin-glazed, earthenware ceramic ware known for its white, opaque slip colored surface that allows for painted designs. He learned ceramics in Guanajuato, and then went on to study more diverse pottery techniques in Japan after meeting Hisato Murayama. After returning from Japan, he devoted his life to reestablishing majolica pottery from Guanajuato, since it was a dying technique. He signs his works with the monogram "AT" which stands for "alfareria tradicional" which translates to "traditional pottery." He does this because majolica is made by a group of people and has always loved to share the achievement with the name of pottery.
