Gene Byron

Gene Byron (1910-1987) was as Canadian-born artist who dedicated her early years to acting, although she did paint. In 1941, she took a trip to Mexico to study muralists, which is where she met Leopoldo Mendez, Alfredo Zalce and Pablo O'Higgins. Her visit to Mexico left a strong impression, that she decided to move Mexico City. During this time, she would visit various states and continue to paint her surroundings. In addition to painting, Gene also worked with ceramics and metals like copper, tin and brass. After living in Texas for 10 years, she and her husband, Virgilio, decided to settle in Guanajuato for it's beauty and good climate. This is where she continued to paint until her death. Following her death, Virgilio converted their house into a museum, as a way to perpetuate her memory, and has been open since 1997.
