Agapito Labios (1898-1996) was a Mexican artist from Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. He was active during the Mexican Revolution, however was put in prison. His art career started when he would paint on the cell walls and was noticed by the mayor, who ordered him to paint his two little girls. Agapito was entirely self taught and used a distintive primitive art style. After being released from prison, Agapito relocated to Mexico City and made a living off of painting portraits, usually of his own children, and sold them in the Lagunilla market on Sundays. He later opened his own shop called Mercado de Artesanias at La Ciudadela in Mexico City, which his son took over after he passed away.
