Oil on canvas painting entitled, "Enfants", depicting an indigenous Guatemalan mother in traditional clothing with her children, one of them being a baby being carried on her back by a textile sling. Signed "Kurt Leyde S. Lucas 1927" on bottom right corner. S. Lucas is for San Lucas Tolimán (a rural, culturally rich town on the shores of Lake Atitlán). On this trip Leyde was accompanied by his friend and famous Guatemalan painter Humberto Garavito.

The Maker
Kurt Leyde (1881-1941) was a German landscape painter and graphic artist. He studied under Fran von Stuck in Munich, then with L. Dettmann in Königsberg. Kurt spent his time traveling to places like France, Italy, South America and Spain, spending many years painting in Madrid.
