Statue of an Aztec playing ōllamalīztli, a Mesoamerican ballgame, with the player hitting the ball, known as ōllamaloni, with his hip. The piece is made of silver, copper and 24K plated ball and plume. Piece is detachable from the base for shipping.

The Maker

Martín Mendoza is a sculptor who was born in Mexico City in 1966. He learned at a very early age several different techniques and materials, due to his father being a sculptor as well. He exhibited the first time when he was 17 at the Galeria de Arte Misrachi. He started in his career by working in the abstract field, making direct carvings in marble and wood. He's mastered a variety of sculptural techniques and has worked for various federal and state government institutions such as the Presidential Guards, Legislative Assembly of the Federal District and the Mexico City Government. He currently works as one of D'Argenta's main sculptors.
