The Maker
Sergio Bustamante is a Mexican artist and sculptor born in Culiacan, Sinaloa in 1949. His artworks combines the elements of nature and Mexican culture while using a variety of materials like paper-mache, bronze and ceramics. He has gained recognition internationally and is considered to be an influential figure in contemporary Mexican art. In 1975, Bustamante was one of the artists that helped establish the "Family Workshop Studio" in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. Around this time, he started to include wood and bronze in his sculptures. Bustamante lived in Guadalajara during childhood with his grandfather, Jose Chong due to being orphaned, and has remained there since.
