Description
This early 20th century, finely carved, Barbones mask with a long beard has a wonderful old patina. The interior of the mask has a carved out chin rest. There is a string attached on the back for wall hanging.
Barbones masks, or "bearded men" masks, are known for their intricate detailed carvings on the beard, often featuring long beards. Originating from Guerrero, Mexico, these masks were used for rain dances and festivals, but are now used for decorative purposes.
