Additional Information
The Maker
Mario Lopez Torres (b.1952, Mexico City) is a Mexican artist and furniture designer most known for his woven rattan and brass creations. Mario was always drawn to artistic hobbies like drawing, clay modeling and engraving. He attended a fine arts school when he was 13 and later left to Altepeje/Puebla to study weaving techniques and experiment with metal frames at 20. He would learn metal handling techniques under Ana Pellicer and James Metcalf in 1973. Soon he would set up his own craft workshop, where he would combine wire structure art with traditional chuspata weaving. His creations would attract a lot of attention from international designers.
