Description

The wax figure depicts a Oaxacan dancer. He wears a large colorful, circular headdress, a frilly outfit with brown shoes, and holds maracas in both hands. He stands on a wooden base. This piece is signed by Luis Hidalgo and dated 1932. The piece is also marked "310."

Luis Hidalgo (1901-1986) was a wax and waxen fabrics modeler. It's noted that he comes from a line of ancestors who devoted themselves to wax modeling. Hidalgo was most known for wax figurines portraying famous men, such as fighters to generals and poets to politicians. He also had a talent for incorporating the caricature art style in his wax figures.
