Additional Information
The Maker
Uriarte Talavera is a famous pottery workshop in Puebla, Mexico, known for creating Talavera pottery using the same traditional techniques from the 16th century. Talavera is a type of majolica. Dimas Uriarte was the founder of this family-owned workshop, in 1824. In 1897, Enrique Luis Ventosa, a Spanish artist, came to Puebla and worked with Uriarte to revive the Talavera craft. Ventosa started working with Ysauro Uriarte, who had just taken over the workshop. Ventosa's role was to decorate the pottery while Ysauro shaped the pieces. They both signed their works with special initials.
