Description
The Vargueño is a portable writing desk that comes with two drawers, a cover lid that can be latched and locked with a key. the inside of the cover lid and the exterior of the drawers feature hand painted artwork, with the cover having a bird with a plant motif and the drawers mainly having a floral design. The artwork is similar to the style used on Olinala boxes. Owning a portable desk also served as a status symbol, given at the time that not a lot of people knew how to read or write.
